Osdife at the International Conference “Crisis Management Days 2017″

The Observatory on Security and CBRNe Defence has been invited as Keynote Speaker at the opening of the International Conference “Crisis Management Day” which was held from 24th to 26th May 2017 at Terme Tuhelj (Croatia).

The International Academic Event, at its tenth Edition, has been organized by the University of Applied Sciences “Velika Gorica” of Zagreb along with Croatian Ministries of Defence and Interior Affairs and concerned especially the deep study and analysis of the Crisis Management phase.

Osdife, represented in this occasion by the President Prof. Roberto Mugavero and by Stefano Scaini, has introduced the wide audience – composed of qualified participants, experts, specialist technicians and scholars – to the analysis of the various aspects of the so-called “Scientific and Technical Intelligence”, fundamental both to prevent and manage crises in the best way.

The Presentation entitled “Defence in a new era of threats: combating WMD proliferation and CBRNe terrorism with Scientific and Technical Intelligence”, made with the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” – Department of Electronic Engineering and the University of the Republic of San Marino – Center for Security Training and Education, has followed a successful joint exercise between University and Ministries in the field of Counterterrorism and CBRNe where there has been simulated a Special Forces operation against a terrorist group ready to perpetrate a WMD attack.

The work of the Conference continued in the classroom, with the greetings and the introductions of Representatives coming from the Academic, Institutional, and National Political and Military world and the three technical sessions invited to participate.

Between a brilliant focus in the Cyber-Security field held by Dr. Graeme Parker and an analysis of the so-called “Bio” risk delivered by Dr. Stef Stienstra, Stefano Scaini made a speech that caused considerable interest and consensus during and after the intervention.

The approach towards the participants and the stent given to the event have been very successful: there were not only the contents, full of information and reality-oriented references , to interest and involve the audience.

The analysis of two case studies, with a specific reference to a recent activity done by Osdife, impressed the audience, which extremely appreciated and showed how the Institute represents a great added value in the field of Security and especially for the aspects linked to Asymmetric Threats.
